Nora and I spent two nights in her house in Frankfurt and on the morning of Saturday, July 8th we picked up Lioba from the train station at 7am to make our way to Hungary! We had talked on the phone the night before and decided to go for a week trip the very next day. It was quite spontaneous and that much more exciting. Lioba booked a train ticket that night and had to catch it at something like 4am. Before going to Hungary though, we were going to spend the day in Bavaria. We went to Bayreuth to watch Nora's brother perform opera, and we spent the night in Regensburg in a hostel. It was the first time for me in a hostel and it was great, we had our own room and in the morning we got fresh croissants, tea, coffee, and cereal, it was breakfast for a king really.
This was at the train station waiting for Lioba.
I hadn't seen her in over 15 months!
It was quite funny, Nora and I spotted her wobbling off the train in her pyjama like pants
with all her bags for our upcoming week in Hungary.
This was outside the train station and the three of us were talking
like we had never been separated.
And talking I mean about as talkative you can be at 7am.
By this time, Lioba was sleeping in the back,
and Nora and I were bored out of our minds.
A traffic jam on the Autobahn!
We got this far in 45 minutes!
Shortly after this, Nora cut through the traffic, somehow, took the exit
and we went through some other cities to get to Bayreuth.
We were in a bit of a hurry since we had to get there in time
for her brother the perform.
This was the music hall where we got to watch Nora's brother, along with his classmates sing.
We had a little bit of time before the performance so we made our way into the washroom to freshen up.
At the end of the hall, there was a door that said "Make up Raum"
We went inside and found this!
The soccer team's mascot!
(I think)
My first Bavarian beer!
Quick fact: Bavaria is where Oktoberfest is, so the beer is important.
Thanks to Lioba, we got a free tour in this Opera House we found.
This stage is 80ft from back to front.
Everything is carved from wood!
The lighting wasn't the best so all my close ups didn't turn out so well.
We always tried to get into the big churches but they seemed to always be closed.
If they were open though, we tended to have bad luck,
like with this one being a construction zone.
We of course tried again and found this one!
Marspian... Lioba said it's delicious but I beg to differ.
This was another opera house we went to.
The one that was all carved from wood was made for the composer Richard Wagner,
but it wasn't grand enough for him, so this one was built instead!
That evening in Regensburg, after we checked in at the hostel
we walked along the river into town (where the cathedral is) for a jazz festival.
This was the big cathedral.
It was my first time ever seeing one and I remember being blown again.
It was so high and so magnificent.
We carried on through the crowded streets, enjoying the never ending excitment.
We got lost at one point but Nora was able to find the way,
We went back to the hostel later that night where we slept comfortably before departing the next morning for Hungary!
